The Turbo:

What kills 22RTE's turbo (the CT-20 (in order of importance)?
HEAT! Get and install an EGT! (Exhaust-Gas-Temperature) Gage. It's also called a Pyrometer).
HEAT! Get and install an TWT! (Turbo-Water-Temperature) Gage.
I made this name up
).
Checked out my
cracked turbo
(CT-20) page (to see what happens, if you think I'm a just kook...
Idle the engine,
before you shut the it down or start to drive!!!
Take it easy as the engine worms up.
The turbo is going from, about 50F to 1250F. It's probably best, if this happens over, 30 minutes, than over three minutes.)
Thermal and Mechanical stressors (Read this page twice).
Lack of a factory installed flex joint - Add one!.
That darn bracket connected to the transmission bell housing - Tose that puppy.
Exhaust leaks. Have one? Fix it fast (see what happen
if you don't
)!!!
Check the nuts and bolts on the exhaust system every 6 months, as they loosen up, from the heat cycling (cold to 1300F, cold, etc. ...).
No factory BOV (POV), it needs one, especially if running over 6 PSI;
Use the plumb back kind (don't use the one's that vents to the atmosphere (confuses the ECU).
Add Inter cooler, this also would be good, too; Especially if running over 7 PSI.
Maintain a good cooling system;
Upgrade to a better radiator. Stock it a 3 row, I have a custom made 4 row
May not fit with A/C, or if you use a "Black Magic" fan.
Don't run over 10 PSI, with stock ECU…
Now, available from me, this turbo down pipe, I have this specially made.
This will help reduce heat buildup, and increase power.
